Calvin Coolidge Bridge Photographs

MassTraveler photographers have visited the bridge throughout the construction. Our newest set of pictures shown here are from May, 2004 and are compared to previous pictures to show the progress that the project has made.

Near Completion

These two photographs illustrate that after 3 years, the bridge reconstruction is nearing its completion.

Here we see a view of the Coolidge Bridge from the adjacent Railroad bridge. The two images clearly show the structural improvements that have been made, as well as the new lighting & railing work.

Road Widening

The bridge and Route 9, Hadley (from Bay Road to the bridge). are being widened to accommodate two lanes of traffic in both directions.

The reconstruction and narrowing of the pylons has been a significant part of the rehabilitation process. The pylons had to be narrowed to accommodate the additional lanes, yet still retain their historic appearance.
